Our classroom will use montessori tools and this is a large part of my classroom philosophy. Students will be have the chance to be independent and hands on. Children will take charge of their own learning and be responsible for their learning within the classroom.

Maria Montessori was a pioneer in her time. She was born in 1870 and was the first woman to earn a degree in physician in Italy. She then turned towards teaching and found herself studying children with disabilities specifically. She worked at a center with children ages 3-7 where she really wanted to hone into children's natural desire to learn and giving them the freedom to do it in their own way.

Maria dedicated her life to helping children and giving what she could to provide them with a high quality education. She also trained others. through writing books and developed programs for other teachers to teach using the child centered approach.

Maria was an icon for many and her methods are still used to this day. The idea behind montessori by giving students the responsibility to make decisions that impact their learning is used within our classroom. We also use specific math montessori tools as well, giving students the deep, foundational understanding they need to be successful in math.

Please let me know if you have questions about the montessori method and how it will be used within the classroom and what your children will be expected to do.

Classroom Expectations
-We are good listeners
-We follow directions the first time
-We are kind with our words and actions
-We work and play safely
We are firm believers of the growth mindset in this classroom, which is why we have banned the word "can't!" There is a lot of power in the word, yet. We might not be able to read YET, or solve subtraction problems YET, but we will get there through hard work and practice!

Instead of asking your kiddo what they did at school, try asking them what was difficult about school! Try focusing the conversation on your child's effort no matter what the outcome is!
